As with most other regions of Latin America, Venezuela’s first press
arrived with the wars of independence. Following the constitution of 1811
and surrounding documents, many were issued by Royalists. Among these is
one by Pablo de Murillo, printed aboard the Frigate Diana announcing the
terms of Venezuelan General Simón Bolívar’s surrender. As with other
parts of this collection, virtually all of these items are known in
single copies at the JCB.
